The Institute of Imaging

The staff of radiologists and technicians in the the Institute of  Imaging at Schneider Children’s is experienced in imaging studies of infants, children and adolescents, and familiar with their special needs. The department conducts the full range of radiological studies including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT), screening and conventional x-rays, and is outfitted with advanced equipment that accords quality images while reducing the exposure to radiation.

Imaging Studies


Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
An MRI is a non-invasive scan of the internal organs and blood vessels of the body utilizing magnetic resonance, which result in superior and sharp images.
In our department we perform MRI of:

  • Skull
  • Spinal Column
  • Heart and major blood vessels
  • Abdomen and pelvis including MR Enterography
  • Musculo-skeletal system
  • Urinary Tract

Computerized Tomography (CT)


A CT is an imaging study based upon many x-rays, which create detailed and precise images of the body’s internal organs. Studies are done of the entire body, with or without contrast media administered intravenously and/or via the digestive system - according to need.
Examinations will be performed for Schneider Children's Hospital patients only

Emergency referrals from the ER or from hospital departments are conducted throughout day and night in coordination with the pediatric radiologist.

 



Ultrasound (US)


An Ultrasound (also known as Sonography) is a medical test that utilizes sound waves, and results in images of the body’s internal organs.
In our department we perform US of:

  • Skull in newborns and premature infants
  • Abdomen and pelvis
  • Skeletal system
  • Guidance for biopsies and surgery
  • Doppler tests for bloodflow
  • Follow up after organ transplant surgeries

Sundays to Thursdays, 08:00-14:30

Fluoroscopy


Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique that uses X-rays to obtain real-time moving images of the interior of anatomical structures, as in the Digestive, Respiratory or Urinay system
According to need a contrast media will be used

  • Respiratory System and Diaphragm
  • Upper and Lower Digestive System
  • Urinary Tract System including Cystography following catherisation
  • Post surgery, stent implants, leakages and fistulae, with or without contrast media
  • Video fluoroscopy for swallowing and respiratory disorders
  • Urodynamic studies in cooperation with a urologist

Conventional Imaging


X-ray studies are conducted based on requests and referrals from hospitalization departments and the ER. Imaging services are provided 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, throughout the year. Conventional x-rays include of the chest, bones, skull, spine, and neck with a copper filter. It is unnecessary to make an appointment, but patients must provide physician’s referral letter and a payment guarantee.

Imaging for limb length (axis): Referrals and examinations up to age 20 only; no appointment needed in advance; the service is provided on Thursdays only (not including holidays and eves of holidays) from 08:00 - 14:00.
