“Taglit” Music Students

Music students, members of the “Taglit” music group, visited Schneider Children’s at the initiative of “Yeladim Shelanu”, a charitable association that supports in the hospital. “Taglit” comprises of students of music at Israeli colleges and academies. They toured various departments in the hospital and played and sang with the children and their families. |
During the visit to one of the surgical departments, a relative of a hospitalized girl asked one of the student’s for his guitar and played an Arabic melody for the child, which was very moving for the girl, her family and the group members. At the end of the tour of departments, hospitalized children were invited to participate in a music workshop in the Starlight Room.

The visit of Omri Caspi, NBA basketball player for the Sacramento Kings, was arranged by “Yeladim Shelanu” (Our Children) and Avi Wiesiltier. Omri was welcomed at Schneider Children’s by Prof. Joseph Press, director of the hospital, and members of Management. During his visit, Omri met hospitalized children and their families, distributed gifts and posed for photographs. His visit generated a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm among patients, and especially Amit, an ardent fan. Amit’s younger brother, Ido, even masqueraded as Omri Caspi during the recent Purim Festival. |
At the end of his visit, Omri met with patients in the Starlight Center, where he spoke about his experiences playing in the NBA while children were invited to ask questions. At the end of the event, every participant received a signed basketball and a photograph of Omri Caspi.

Kadima Party

The chair of the Kadima Party, MK Tzippi Livni, led a delegation of party members during a visit to Schneider Children’s. They were hosted by Prof. Joseph Press, Director of Schneider Children’s, and toured various departments including Oncology and Cardiology. Members of the hospital’s management also participated in the tour along with hospital clowns. |

Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Health

The Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Valeriy Mitrev, visited Schneider Children’s in order to investigate the possibilities of future cooperation in the fields of joint research, physician exchange programs, training and medical tourism. Dr. Mitrev was accompanied by a delegation including the wife of the Bulgarian Ambassador to Israel, medical professionals in Bulgaria and a representative of the Foreign Office. |
Prof. Joseph Press, Director of Schneider Children’s, accompanied the visitors who also met with Prof. Ben Zion Garty, Director of Pediatrics B Department, who originally hails from Bulgaria. According to Prof. Press, “The visit of the Deputy Minister of Health of Bulgaria and his delegation was productive and we discussed possible collaboration in establishing a children’s hospital in Bulgaria. Schneider Children’s has broad relations with other medical centers in various countries around the world, and we will be pleased to extend our ties to medical centers in Bulgaria.”

Medical Delegation from Beijing

A delegation of medical officials from Beijing, China, visited Schneider Children’s to discuss areas of cooperation in pediatric specialties, collaborative research, conferences and international patients. The delegation followed a prior visit to China by a Schneider Children’s team about six months ago.

Director-General of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Authority in Beijing, Mr. Fan Mauhai, Director of the Chief Pediatric Institute and Mrs. Shan Conneling, Deputy Director of the Beijing Children’s Hospital.
In addition to touring various departments in the hospital, the delegation met with Dr. Einat Birk, Director of the Institute of Pediatric Cardiology, Dr. Isaac Yaniv, Director of the Hematology-Oncology Department and Prof. Itamar Shalit, Director of the Infectious Diseases Unit. They also held discussions with Dr. Ehud Davidson, Deputy Director General and Head of the Hospital’s Division at Clalit Health Services of which Schneider Children’s is a member. The visit was part of Schneider Children’s efforts to extend broad international collaboration in general and with medical centers in China in particular.

TA Maccabi Annual Visit

Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv Basketball team players visited the hospital as part of their annual tradition to visit hospitalized children during Channukah. The team contributed a new plasma screen TV through the charitable organization, “Yeladim Shelanu” (“Our Children”), which supports Schneider and arranged the visit. Moving from room to room in the various hospitalization departments, the players distributed gifts and candies to children and their families, and happily agreed to be photographed with them. |

The United States Ambassador to Israel, Mr. James Cunningham, visited Schneider Children’s Medical Center last week accompanied by his wife, Leslie, the Medical Attaché, Carol Dorsey, and Embassy Nurse, Enid Abrahami. The Ambassador and his party were hosted by Prof. Joseph Press, Director of Schneider Children’s, and Ms. Lynn Schneider, daughter of Irving and the late Helen Schneider, founders and benefactors of Schneider Children’s, and toured various departments and units in the hospital, among them Hemato-Oncology, Cardiac Intensive Care and the Starlight Room, an advanced multimedia center for children. |
The objective of the Ambassador’s visit was to strengthen cooperation between the medical center and medical institutions in the US. Schneider Children’s has close ties with pediatric centers around the world through the exchange of specialists and residents, joint conferences and multi-center research. July 2009
US Teams to Israel’s 18th Maccabian Games

US teams for basketball, fencing and swimming to the 18th Maccabiah brought great excitement to hospitalized children when they visited the medical center and toured various departments. Among the visitors was American swimmer Jason Lezak, winner of seven Olympic medals, who had lit the flame at the opening ceremony of the Games, and basketball coach, Bruce Pearl. Together with team players, guests distributed gifts to the kids, while the basketball team presented children with small basketballs. Deputy Health Minister Yaacov Litzman

The Deputy Minister of Health, Rabbi Yaacov Litzman, visited Schneider Children’s at the invitation of Mr. Eli Depes, Director General of Clalit Health Services. During his visit, the Deputy Minister met with Prof. Joseph Press, Director of Schneider Children’s, observed a cardiac catheterization procedure and toured the Oncology Department. Mr. Depes remarked to MK Litzman that “given the all-encompassing problems and difficulties existing in the health system, a visit to Schneider Children’s is filled with hope and light”. | June 2009 Egyptian Ambassador Yasser Reda

At the initiative of Yeladim Shelanu, Schneider Children’s had the distinct privilege of hosting Egyptian Ambassador to Israel, Yasser Reda, and his wife Nahla recently. Amb. Reda suggested a unique endeavor: to hold a fundraising event at their residence to benefit both Schneider Children’s and the children’s hospital in Cairo, thus promoting ties between the two institutions.
