Prof. Joseph Press was appointed Director of Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel in January 2008. Previously, he held the post of Director of the Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Chair of the Pediatrics Division, at Soroka University Medical Center.
Prof. Press attained the title of Associate Professor in 2002 and Full Professor in 2006 in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Ben Gurion University of the Negev.
Prof. Press concluded his medical studies at the Kovna University in Lithuania and his pediatric studies at the Soroka Medical Center. Thereafter, he continued to sub-specialize in Rheumatology at the Hospital for SickKids in Toronto, Canada. He holds degrees in Pediatrics, Rheumatology and Emergency Medicine.
As Director of the Pediatrics Division at Soroka, he contributed significantly towards the establishment of a new children’s hospital in the Negev that will open in 2008, advanced collaborative research, exchange and training programs with leading international medical centers, and spearheaded the introduction of digitized technology and advanced medical protocols in the Division’s departments and clinics.
Prof. Press has published over 80 original research articles in leading international professional publications. He filled a range of important positions at Ben Gurion University of the Negev.
His vision as director of Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel focuses on the inpatient sector through the introduction of knowledge, therapeutic protocols and advanced technologies from among the best in the world, and the advancement of research studies as an inseparable part of clinical activities.
Prof. Press, 54, is married to Dr. Fernanda Press, Director of the High-Risk Pregnancy Unit at Soroka University Medical Center. He has two daughters.
Prof. Joseph Press replaces Prof. Marc Mimouni, who served as the director of Schneider Children’s from August 2003-December 2007.
