As with every year, International Child’s Day 2017 was marked at Schneider Children’s by the Committee for the Protection of the Child at the hospital
Date: 26.11.17 | Update: 17.12.17

As with every year, International Child’s Day 2017 was marked at Schneider Children’s by the Committee for the Protection of the Child at the hospital.

Under the slogan “Alertness, Awareness, and Responsibility for the Safety of our Children”, the Day was aimed to raise awareness about the importance of being alert to the prevention and presence of distress and injury in children. A special presentation entitled “Interrogating Child Victims of Abuse” was made at the hospital by social worker, Michal Chamudot, senior pediatric interrogator and Director of the Tel Aviv Central District of Child Services.

As part of the day’s activities, photo magnets of parents and children were distributed to underscore the importance of awareness and responsibility for the child’s safety. Parents were given brochures “Chamudi on the Safety of the Child” about how to listen properly to children which included an explanation on how to prevent risk situations and when should adults be consulted. Information sheets were also distributed about preventing accidents and the dangers of shaking infants.

The Committee for the Protection of the Child at Schneider Children’s accompanies and counsels staff regarding children arriving for treatment at the hospital where there is suspicion of abuse or neglect. The Committee also aims to raise awareness and guide staff members about child abuse and neglect.

The Committee comprises chair, Dr. Rama Schwartz; a senior physician in the ER; committee coordinator and social worker in the Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Efrat Harel; Dganit Ben Nissan, chief psychologist in the Institute of Child Development; and Idit Ronen, a member of the hospital’s Nursing Management.
